Video Player change proposel

I'm still having the startup problem after installing mplayer and
removing mplayer2.  Mplayer seems to lock up when I play an avi file,
but if I repeatedly open the file, it eventually starts working, and
keeps working for a few hours.  I'll ask for help in IRC about
reporting this bug.

also I edited /usr/share/applications/defaults.list to point to
mpplayer (all video mimetypes), but it had no effect.  I hate to
change subject, but I could use some help here.
