Update notifications in Precise

I don't know if the update-notifier is enabled by default (it's a small
script or something that checks once a day/week for new updates), but
otherwise a quick boot up of update-manager and letting it check manually
would suffice.

P.s. I usually run "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade" in a
terminal window
