Had a little bit of time to chase up details.

Inside a terminal, did this to run under a debugger:-
gdb --args /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin --writer

Process ended abnormally. Return code was 139 (128+11) which I believe is a
segmentation fault.

Could not find a package of debug symbols - otherwise I'd have been able to
dig out more information.
