I dunno. I recently went from a 32 inch 1080p TV as a monitor, to a 43
inch 4k unit. While Windows had no problem adjusting from the jump from
1080 to Hidpi, when I first recovered Windows on my PC, just in case, for
a possible job, I needed the magnifier to see the 1080p screen. Exactly
the same as in Linux, including the complete lack of familiarity on where
things are in Windows land.

The kernel and xorg set the resolution, and I read somewhere I think that
96 dpi is either hard coded, or the strong default

I have yet to see a distro that sets a good scale or dpi automagically.
