Have you checked that the Desktop Effects - Advanced has not reverted to
"Xrender" that normally (for me at least) does not work with a number of
effects?

I have also toyed around with kernel 4.0 and found that in many rc
version it would not recognize any usb-devices or sd-cards inserted. The
final version seems OK though
