Linux version for elderly slow laptop

Sometimes the power a machine has is wasted on frivolity. Before trying other
DEs, try globally disabling the bling. In /etc/X11/xorg.conf include the
following

	Section "Extensions"
        	Option "Composite" "Disable"
	EndSection

That might be all the help it needs.

What CPU type and speed does it have? How much RAM? What gfxchip does it
have? (lspci | grep VGA)
