Udev and systemd were merged by upstream around 2 years ago. The distros
I most often use are Arch Linux, Debian and *buntus and most often of
those most often distros I use Arch Linux, a rolling release following
the stable branches from upstream, IOW I'm forced to use systemd and
journalctl for a long time now and still unable to handle journalctl.
For Debian I'm using SysVinit, but I read at Debian user about Debian's
systemd implementation. If somebody want to experience the real pros and
cons of systemd, Debian might not be a good distro for this purpose.
