you and others who dislike the akonadi/nepomuk may also consider this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~pali/+archive/kdepim-noakonadi

I have not tried it myself but others who have report that it works as 
"old KMail" did. Clearly you then have to live with no development done 
and no bugs fixed.
