It's unlikely for a vanilla kernel from upstream or the
"normal"/"desktop" kernel provided by a major distro, but it easily
could cause trouble, if you use patched kernels. The current RT patches
are known to cause issues for AMD based computers. CPU?, graphics?, mobo
chip sets? ... what ever does cause the issues, at the moment there are
more serious issues for computers with AMD CPUs, than for computers with
Intel CPUs, when using RT patched kernels.

There are other kernel patches too and perhaps one or the other distro
enables experimental options even for vanilla kernels, that could cause
problems on some machines.
