I use ldap for login, I need to put in an arbitrary username. The
default lightdm interface doesn't cater for this and the default kdm
interface does :)

Thanks, I've never used the -i switch for top, it showed up the
culprit almost immediately:
Googled, it's hit a bunch of people

I'm not seeing high CPU usage though, just constant disk usage.
I'll follow up in the kde forum thread/bug report from here - thanks
