Actually Nils, I just now solved it. Because linuxcnc makes progress
whether the user updates or not, and the fact that we are very kernel
choice limited (must be rtai patched), one of the movers & shakers of
linuxcnc backported it to lucid, so all I had to do was add that repo to
/etc/apt/sources.list and install it.
deb http://linuxcnc.org/ lucid base
And I'm off to the races.
