On the "different set of desktop icons" - I have different widgets,
icons etc on different virtual desktops. The setting is in
System Settings - Workspace Behaviour - Virtual Desktops. Click on
"Different Widgets for each Desktop".
Note that if you do this after you set too many Desktop things up you
may have to redo them.
