Evolution turned out not to be usable, since the first thing it wants is all
kinds of e-mail-related information. I see that there are bugs filed against
evolution for requiring this, since apparently I'm not the only one looking
for a program just to manage calendars and contacts.

It is somewhat odd that roughly ten years ago I had perfectly acceptable
calendar and contact management in the palm of my hand with a Handspring Visor
PDA, but these days there don't seem to be any obvious usable stand-alone
applications for Linux desktops. One would think that after ten years this
would be a multiply-solved problem with plenty of acceptable choices.
