Gigabyte motherboard does not detect my Network Adaptor

So I'm preparing an 11.10 image as we speak.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet sometime, I just hoped it wasn't yet.

It's true, but I don't even know how to enable the kernel backports.  How
does 
that happen?

Maybe I could have some sort of other network connection, like Bluetooth or 
something.  Maybe I could separately download the driver on another machine 
transfer with a pen-drive and compile on the new machine.  It sounds like a 
lot of work.
