Cant get any of my Mic's to work on Kubuntu

Im having a problem getting my mic to work, Skypes not picking it up its not muted (checked that several times from the sound mixer
any thing I can do to get it to work? I tried both my analog mic and my MS Life cam mic and both arnt working in Kubuntu 11.04
