Hm, you should know that Kubuntu uses *.deb packages as well, it is
not a different distribution for the basics but it is after all a
spin-off of Debian, I have no idea why you think Kubuntu would then
use a different packaging system.  In case you need more information
about Kubuntu, I suggest you read the informations on
http://kubuntu.org and maybe have a look at http://kubuntuguide.org
before assuming things :) Don't forget, this mailing list is about
Kubuntu, so maybe getting a tad more familiar with it would be a good
idea...

But as you assumed correctly: hardware drivers don't depend on the
Desktop one uses, but on the underlying Linux system, which is
absolutely identical to Ubuntu, also for the packages and basic
repositories.
