A full desktop environment is usually not needed in order to share files. I 
suppose your intention is avoid the command line. You'll have a hard time.

It isn't really that outdated, but it certainly is command line only. There 
are major differences, so you should have read the Ubuntu 10.10 server guide.

I don't know that program. Aptitude tells me 'kdf' is a disk information 
utility for KDE. Editing /etc/exports is the proper way. I have no knowledge 
about web interfaces or gui programs that manage NFS.

If you're trying the KDE NFS kioslave. Don't bother. It has been broken ever 
since KDE4 was released [2]. Mount manually or use /etc/fstab.

You haven't given any specific information about your setup. Please send us 
the relevant lines from /etc/exports, (and maybe other related files)
