Limited PDF preview in Dolphin

On a particular Kubuntu 10.10 32 bit installation, the user has PDF
preview on some PDF files, but not on others. The
kdegraphics-strigi-plugins is installed. I have played with the
configured Image Preview file types to no avail (not that I expected
this to help after PDF was selected). The PDF files in question are a
mix of (according to the "file" command) PDF version 1.3 to PDF
version 1.6 and all versions have both previewing and nonpreviewing
files.

Any ideas? Many of the files are ebooks with publishers rights, so I
can send them in private mail for purposes of testing, but I cannot
post them to the intercords at large. Thanks.
