Kubuntu 10.10 +raid

Hi to all,
I have just tried to get Kubuntu installed with raid.
I booted the install disk, ran the try Kubuntu, installed the raid components 
then ran the install program.
Although raid was installed there was no raid setup id the drive/partitions 
setup.
Since I have lost a lot of data in the last year with new drive failing after 
a few months, I have decided to go to raid1.
What am I doing wrong , not getting raid to work with Kubuntu??
