Problems with mic in Kubuntu

Yesterday I've installed a new webcam in my Kubuntu Lucid, and I was happy to see that it worked perfectly. Since it has an agregated mic, I've pluged it and verified that sound was coming through the speakers. But then I tried to use it in Skype, and realized that my contact couldn't hear what I was saying.

So I assumed it was a problem with Skype and went through the software forum to figure out what to do, and seemed that many other people were having the same problem. But someone there suggested that one had to try and see if the mic was really working, by recording some sound in a recording program (Audacity) and discovered that it recorded no sound or (after setting the mic volume to maximum) it was very, very low. Still, when speaking in the mic, its sound came clearly and loud through the speakers.

Does anyone here had the same issue, or has an idea on how to solve it?
