i don't know if this applies to your situation but I have an 'sandbox' 
computer at work.  Of course I just had to install Kubuntu on it :)  Well when 
I upgraded to lucid, all my mounts to the work servers failed.  I use cifs 
mounts so you may need to change the '.cifs' to what you use.  

The fix:
sudo chmod +s /sbin/mount.cifs
sudo chmod +s /sbin/umount.cifs

It's probably this bug:
