Indeed. In that view, I wonder what they willl do in the LTS. KDE will be 
version 4.4.x, so Kontact will not be using akonadi completely. Also, akonadi 
does not feel very stable at the moment.

LTS will be used for production, so groupware like Kolab enters the picture. 
The PIM situation in KDE 4.4.x is far from ideal as a Kolab client. You need a 
mix of akonadi and legacy resources to get it working. Will that in mind, will 
anybody be willing to support such a situation?

The only solution I see here is backporting KDE 4.5 (and probably higher) to 
Kubuntu 10.04.
