Aha! I think I found the culprit. It may be be the new interface, "nouveau",
or something like that. (it's one thing to be a non-native english
speaker, but quite another to be a non-french speller.) :)
Hah! When this first came up, the developers themselves spelt it wrong and
there is an update to get the spelling write (pun intended).
When you somehow log into lucid, whatever kernel, remove this 'nouveau'.
May also be good if you leave the new 'plymouth' alone for the moment,(can't
they get something easier to spell, like reykjavik or ahmadinejad?)
Of course, alpha's being what they are...., you might still want to try
these out, but don't throw your production system out yet, I still have my
hardy.
