can't boot into kubuntu 9.10 after installation

*Errata*
should be 
linux (hd0,x)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdax ro quiet splash

note : sdax not sda5; of course x is number of partition
note also (hd0,x) is sdax  NOT sda(x+1)

Finally, if booted to kubuntu, at terminal, type
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
