can't boot into kubuntu 9.10 after installation

I am not clear if the debian boot is grub2, if it is, this may help

If unsure of partition number, then at grub prompt type
'ls' or 'search -f /vmlinuz'        (without quote marks)

it this doesn't work (configfile (hd0,x)/boot/grub/grub.cfg),
do this

linux (hd0,x)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda5 ro quiet splash
initrd (hd0,x)/initrd.img
boot


If none works, then I think you have a bad install and need to reinstall.

If debian grub is grub-legacy, please come back. A new set of instructions  
is needed.
