Well, at the risk of starting a holy war, I installed 10.4 Ubuntu and
all the pulse applications. THEN I installed KDE on top of that, after
setting up all my audio from Gnome. Now that KDE is all quieted down and
everything seems to be peachy, I read this thread and decided to try.
So, I installed the Skype package straight from the repos. Fired it up,
re-activated an account I set up eons ago and went through the test
call. Mind you, I'm using a HugesNet dish to the Internet with a slower
than hell uplink speed. My voice sounded just fine when it played it
back. First time. No muss nor fuss. Ergo, my reasoning dictates the
problem lies on the kubuntu side of ubuntu with regards to pulse and
skype. But, it works just fine from KDE installed the way I did it. You
mileage may vary, but that is my experience. And, I'm a complete idiot
nowadays... it ain't yesterday's Caldera anymore, Toto. Ric
