Upgrade to KDE 4.5 breaks X

>From time to time I've run into major problems upgrading KDE.  In all cases
they have been resolved by moving ~/.kde and letting the new version of kde
build a new version of the directory.  You'll have to reconfigure your
desktop, but many of the config files can be copied over.  For 4.4 > 4.5 I
found that some of the Desktop effects settings were buggy after upgrade.
