You'll have to reconfigure your desktop, but many of the config files can be copied over. For 4.4 > 4.5 I found that some of the Desktop effects settings were buggy after upgrade.

Hi,

I've just updated the system (10.4) to KDE 4.5 using the PPA backports archive. Update went fine, and I seem to have spotted a bumping of the kernel version during the update. The result is that now, after logging in through KDM, I get an akonadi error, and X crashes and I'm sent back to KDM. Looking at the logs, it may be related to drivers[1]. My graphics cards is this:

$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

I installed ubuntu-desktop, and GNOME seems to work fine. I guess it may have to do with some of they eyecandy in KDE, but unsure of how to test it.

Any hints?

Jose

[1] I guess, as sometimes, the system allows me to launch KDE's system settings, but crashes if I try to enable/disable or change the resolution of my external monitor. There's also the following line in .xsession-errors
