Which is why I gave KDE away a while back. Can't see anything sensible 
in it anymore.

Running live will not get these - remember also that you are running off 
a CD and therefore no room for anything but the most essential apps to 
give you an idea of what Ubuntu is all about.

Install it and it then becomes a different story....

There are 2 panels - one at the top and one at the bottom, but if you 
want them both at the top or the bottom then one can do this.  However, 
I find leaving them as they are is just fine - simply something to get 
used to  just like one gets used to another OS when one switches over 
from one to the other.


Re the "minimise, maximise, exit" buttons being on the left - very 
easily fixed. When you are ready and have installed Ubuntu let me know 
and I'll tell you how to do it.

BTW, you may want to subscribe to the Ubuntu mail list which is where 
all the "action" is. You'll get an almost instant response to any query. 
This list (Kubuntu) is less used.
