Understand, one small point, there is no need for more than 1 swap
partition however many OS there are.

What I did was I had one partition that is automatically mounted in
fstab throughout all OS. This is not the 'data' partition which don't
need to be mounted. This auto mounted partition has all the config
details, like .mozilla, .thunderbird, .opera, .chrome etc, so that
whatever OS I'm in, I can do the same...er.. thing. See no problem with
kmail, knode; just that for me, the kde3 and kde4 messed up this neat
arrangement, (diff config files). Then I s-link to the OS.

You should be able to, I don't see why you cannot. Try it again when you
reinstall.

Yes, all these can access all linux partitions too, (not sure on ext4),
but have not been trying these out for many years now. I used to take
usb dsl, (damn small linux), puppy when I travelled in the past. Usb
lets changes stick and keeps downloads, cd's cannot.
