Flashing the bios

Earlier this year I needed to upgrade the BIOS for an Intel motherboard. 
Intel provided a couple of ways of doing this for non-Windows systems. 
One was a boot CD (which didn't work for me); the other way (which did 
work) was to put the update file on a CD and temporarily change a 
motherboard jumper.
