Greetings --
It is "best practice" to respond in-line or to "bottom-post". I do so.

What version? Can you cite a specific video example?

Do you mean Konqueror? What version?

Do you mean "through"? Does the "cracking sound" have any musical
characteristics within it, or is it pure static?

This kind of thing is very important. Can you use "Help --> About KDE"?

I have only a very few months of Kubuntu experience myself -- WELCOME to
the "family". Please see further comments below.

Kids -- and even pets -- can goof-up things like these. Your report of
"cracking sound" suggests that you are okay thus far.

Perhaps not -- with the "cracking sound" reported.

Jaunty -- 9.04. Thank you.

Firefox (version what?) and Konqueror(?) (version what?)

Seemingly not. Correct me if I am in error. But are you dual-booting?
What alternate Operating Systems are available to you? What happens
with audio when using those?

The answers to these questions are VERY important. How long have you
had Jaunty installed? Why do you hesitate to answer these?
