kopete is freaking out

Today kopete started acting weird at work. I have 4 accounts: AIM,
YIM, Google, and our local jabber server. After kopete starts up I
typically join a chatroom on the local server. Today, that breaks
kopete.
Once I join the chatroom I can no longer interact with kopete.
Keystrokes and mouse clicks are ignored. I can't select any menus, of
course, because the mouse is ignored. The only way out seems to be to
kill it and restart.
If I don't join the chatroom I can still interact with people in one
on one conversations.
However, I notice that kopete claims to have several "running jobs".
These seem to be the notifications that kopete sends and receives.
When the popups notify me of people loggin in or out, I get a notice
that there are 5 or so jobs running. In my system tray there is a
message I've never noticed before at the right of the tray saying
"0/6" and has a little whirling busy symbol on top. I think this is
the same as my running jobs, with maybe one more job than the popup.
Any idea what's going on? This is KDE 4.3.2 on Jaunty.
Thanks,
Michael
