Scanning app 'vuescan' for Linux - has anyone installed/used it?

Well, I use Vuescan quite a lot. Primarily for scanning old B/W
negatives and color slides on an Epson Photo scanner. My version is
the professional v.8.5.35 which comes with a price tag $40 (Free
upgrades supplied forever). Runs excellent under Karmic - and all
other previous versions of Kubuntu).
I purchased Vuescan directly from Hamrick Software:

and upgrade regularly without a hiccup.
My version is installed under /opt - just unpacked the
'vuesca85.tgz' and it runs perfectly. As far as I know, no special
libraries are needed. My scanner is connected via USB and recognized
by Vuescan out of the box.
Working with Vuescan is a breeze compared to i.e xsane or Kooka.
Excellent results and the options are innumerable.
