Urgent help needed - desktop/ screen Kubuntu Karmic does not function at all!

Still I am desperately, but fruitlessly trying to fix the problem I
mentioned earlier today.

Tonight, I fruitlessly tried two possible solutions with respect to
this file, after copying and renaming the original one:
* replacing the 'original' xorg.conf file with the one from the 7.10
installation;
* replacing the same file with the one from the 9.04 installation.
The file from 7.10 origin made the problems only worse. The file from
9.04 origin did not cause any problem, but also did not make any
positive difference.

Another suggestion related to this file: ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc
Editing it did not do any harm, as far as I can see. But it did not
solve anything neither.

Are there any other suggestions with respect to both files?
