I did answer that screen positive. Just to be sure:

karmic1 at kubuntu:~$ aptitude show sun-java6-jre
Package: sun-java6-jre
New: yes
State: installed

karmic1 at kubuntu:~$ aptitude show sun-java6-plugin
Package: sun-java6-plugin
New: yes


Yes, installed! So why don't OOo and Firefox see it?
