I hit this yesterday evening oddly enough. Copying a git repo from ~/ to /
opt was taking forever. I soon figured out that even though the 
Shuttleworth-system was minimized, it was still inducing tens of 
thousands of interrupts. 

A quick mv, and the operation was done in a minute. kde had tried for 
over half an hour and hadn't got very far.

Nobody mention Vista at this point, btw :-)
