KDE4 slow graphics

i notice them all the time, KDE4 in kubuntu is much sluggish, and not only 
graphics, but it slows down everything, i always blamed KDE and nvidia for 
this, until yesterday, i installed SUSE, on same machine, and KDE 4.1 is 
wayyyy faster, so what gives?
