No picture in movies

I had the same problem. Removed Kaffeine and installed VLC. Still
jerky, but changing the video output to X11 solved the problem. In
Firefox I have all video formats (aside from flash) set to open
/usr/bin/vlc (not the plugin). Furthermore, in order to watch Danish
TV (not that it is worth the effort) you can install the firefox
plugin 'mediaconncetivity'.
