strange behaviour on Hardy upgrade

Could it be that the / partition is full? I had about the same effect 
when I intentionally filled the partition a few days ago. After that 
login via KDM wasn't passible but via Ctrl-Alt-F1 worked so I could

could use a LiveCD to check for things that could be removed to make 
space.

If the disk is full, remove unneeded stuff like with

sudo apt-get clean

or if it is another problem, hopefully this works:
