Problems installing Kunbuntu 9.04

received a CD from Sweden and installed Kubuntu on an old laptop. Tried
installing twice. I got some error messages after the installation. Don't
know which.

Kubuntu booted from the harddrive. I got the login screen, then the screen
went black. Only the cursor on the screen.

Whem I installed a CD I got a menu in the upper left corner. That's all.

Can anyone help me get started with Kubuntu. Till now it has only given me
frustration.
