How do I activate my sdb5 partition and have it stay active continually.

Better yet, make it this:
/dev/sdb5 /media/sdb5 ext3 user,atime,auto,rw,exec 0 0

I did not want to change the security aspects of the configuration,
but this _is_ a single-user desktop machine. Now reboot and check if
sdb5 is mounted automatically.
