Trouble Install Kubuntu 8.10 64bit with GeForce 8600 GTS Card

My on board video is 8400 Gforce; currently it is working just fine.  Do I 
still install the nVidia Drivers and the nVidia-gls-180 package, or do I do 
that after I install my PNY 9600 Gforce.

I am a little confused here.  When I installed the PNY video card, a screen 
would not come up, but if I install the update and upgrade of the BIOS, will 
that affect the current install which has working video?  Kind of a chicken and 
egg thing.
