USB drive prepared for installation of Kubuntu 9.10, but laptop does not boot from it.

Just because the operating system can recognize a USB device doesn't mean the 
BIOS can.  My Acer laptop I got in 2005 doesn't have an entry in SETUP for 
booting to a USB device.
