video problem on install

I did reinstall and the monitor problem remains unchanged.  However, when
booting I have the opportunity to go into repair mode and launch a root
partican shell which I think will allow me to execute the commands you gave
earlier. Would you be so kind as to explain to me how to enter them and
treat me as a total novice?
