You can try the KMail 1.11.2 (Jaunty), I have been using it for a while 
and not problems have been arised (yet). There is the old hardy kde3.5 
rock solid if you like. I had try intrepid and get a lot of problems (with 
kmail) that's why I get from hardy to jaunty.
