Do I need both ~/.kde/ and ~/.kde4/

Not sure if merging would bring you that much, except maybe for kmail,
where it is recommended to use the "Import messages" tool which is
part of Kmail.

If you have informations and files you need, you can copy those over
from the .kde4/share/apps/ folders individually, doing a general copy
is not recommended.

I strongly suggest you avoid merging the .kde4/share/config/ part, as
it will only disturb your current settings.
