49 seconds to boot: how do I stack up?

aah, ok. yeah, i have autologin enabled here, and till i can start
using firefox, no it takes a while. KDE takes about 15 seconds to
load, and then the computer become very sluggish fr about 10 seconds
after which my programs from previous session start popping one after
the other.
