update Kubuntu 8.04 to 8.10

Any one out there help

I am getting a live cd rom of Kubuntu 8.10 from conincal, and want to upgrade
from 8.04, but without the loss of any data from my 8.04,
my current setup, is three partitions within my 40gb hdd these being

varlock               474M  4.0K  474M   1% /var/lock

lrm                   474M   39M  435M   9% /lib/modules/2.6.24-23-generic/volatile
/dev/sdb2              19G  8.5G  9.9G  47% /home
/dev/sda1              75G   46G   30G  61% /media/MASTER MAN


the /dev/sda1 is my dual boot xp pro sp3 hdd

can someone advise???????
