OT: lightweight DE's

I'm running Jaunty Beta -- up-to-date and KDE 4.2 looks great etc. However, running all the
latest and greatest on a laptop where one needs to conserve battery power from time to time, a
bloated DE (desktop environment) such as KDE 4.2 is not really desirable. I have Desktop Effects
turned off and still Xorg is using more CPU's than it ever did on Hardy.
I know that this is still Beta but I'm beginning to think that it's all getting a bit too heavy.
I recently installed 'gOS 3.1 Gadgets' (http://www.thinkgos.com/gos/index.html) on my boy's
[older] box and it runs really sweet. It uses the LXDE (http://lxde.sourceforge.net/install.html)
DE and I see that it is available for Kubuntu pre Jaunty.
I might be persuaded to change but I still really need, and like, several KDE apps.
I have looked at Xubuntu but I don't like the XFCE DE (there are problems getting it to change
keyboard layouts for other languages).
Does anyone know if LXDE will run under Jaunty and if there are debs available (for Jaunty)? I
did try Googling but only came up with debs for Intrepid and prior.
Blessings,
Nigel
